Course Overview

The Bachelor of Information Technology (C2000) is structured to provide a comprehensive and deeply engaging learning experience, preparing you for a successful career in the IT industry. The course is thoughtfully divided into three key components to ensure a holistic understanding of the field.

  • Part A: Information Technology specified study provides you with foundational skills and a broad understanding of IT concepts and their applications in organisations and society.
  • Part B: Information Technology listed major allows for a focused program of study, enabling you to develop expertise in a specific area of IT, gaining both practical and theoretical skills to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate information products and systems.
  • Part C: Free elective study offers unparalleled flexibility, allowing you to further deepen your major, explore other IT areas through a second major or minor, or select units from other faculties across the University to broaden your academic horizons.

Course Curriculum

The Bachelor of Information Technology curriculum is carefully structured to provide a strong theoretical foundation combined with practical, applied skills. It includes a set of core units that build essential IT knowledge, along with various majors to allow for specialization.

  1. Core Units These foundational units are compulsory for all students and cover critical areas of computing, programming, systems, and professional practice. Examples include: Introduction to programming, Databases, Computer systems, networks and security, and IT professional practice.
  2. Specialised Majors Students select a major to develop in-depth expertise in a specific IT domain. Current available majors include:
    • Business Information Systems
    • Applied Cybersecurity
    • Games and Immersive Media
    • Software Development You also have the option to undertake a second major or minor for further specialization.

Admission Requirements

Entry Criteria

  • Academic qualifications Applicants must possess strong academic credentials equivalent to Australian Year 12. For Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) students, this typically includes Units 3 and 4 with a study score of at least 27 in English (EAL) or 25 in English other than EAL. Units 1 and 2 with satisfactory completion of two units (any combination) of General Mathematics, Mathematical Methods or Specialist Mathematics. A competitive ATAR or equivalent international qualification is required.
  • Work experience (if applicable) While not typically a primary admission criterion for undergraduate entry, relevant work experience or professional certifications may be considered for credit recognition upon individual assessment.

Language Proficiency

  • English language requirements (e.g., IELTS, TOEFL) For international applicants, demonstrated proficiency in English is mandatory. This is typically evidenced by:
    • IELTS Academic: Overall band score of 6.5, with no band less than 6.0.
    • TOEFL iBT: Minimum score of 79, with specific minimum scores for reading (13), listening (12), speaking (18), and writing (21).
    • PTE Academic: Overall score of 58, with no communicative skill score less than 50.
