The Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine (MD) at Monash University Malaysia is an internationally accredited five-year medical programme that combines biomedical sciences, clinical skills, and research training to produce competent and compassionate medical professionals.

Delivered at the Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences, this programme follows an integrated, patient-centred curriculum modelled after Monash Australia’s MBBS/MD structure. Course Overview

The Monash MD is a graduate-entry-level medical degree that blends basic science with clinical reasoning, communication, and professionalism. The course is structured around four themes:

  • Personal and Professional Development
  • Population, Society, Health and Illness
  • Scientific Basis of Clinical Practice
  • Clinical Skills and Practice

Students gain practical experience through simulation, bedside teaching, community projects, and hospital rotations across a wide range of disciplines and settings.

Course Duration

The MD is a 5-year full-time programme divided into three phases:

  • Year 1: Foundations in health and biomedical sciences
  • Years 2–3: Systems-based clinical sciences and early clinical exposure
  • Years 4–5: Full-time clinical placements and medical internship preparation

Students rotate through internal medicine, surgery, paediatrics, psychiatry, obstetrics & gynaecology, and general practice.

Admission Requirements

Academic Entry (Direct Entry Pathway):

  • A-Level: Minimum BBB including Chemistry and Biology
  • STPM: Minimum BBB including relevant sciences
  • IB Diploma: Minimum 32 points with 2 HL sciences
  • Foundation in Science (Monash): Minimum 70% average
  • UEC: 5 Bs including Chemistry and Biology

Additional Requirements:

  • Structured interview (MMI format)
  • Health and immunisation clearance
  • Criminal record screening

English Language Proficiency:

  • IELTS 7.0 (no band below 6.5)
  • TOEFL 94 overall (Writing ≥ 27)
