About the Course

This interdisciplinary MA cultivates environmental educators and communicators poised to inspire ecological awareness and action. By blending nature- and arts-based inquiry, systems thinking, and Indigenous perspectives, the program fosters a deep ecological identity and creative communication skills. Learning is delivered via online modules, immersive on-campus residencies, and a field school in partnership with the Kwikwasut’inuxw Haxw’miis First Nation

Course Overview

  • Delivery model: Blend of asynchronous/synchronous online courses (10–12 weeks each), two on-campus residencies (~three weeks each), and a field school for immersive, ecological praxis
  • Learning focus: Sustainability systems, eco-psychology, Indigenous worldviews, communication strategies, artistic inquiry, and research design.
  • Capstone Options: Choose either a traditional thesis or an applied research project (e.g., curriculum design, environmental storytelling, policy frameworks, arts-based research)

Course Duration

  • 2 years consisting of six terms (10–12 weeks each)
  • Includes two residencies and a field school embedded in the second residency
  • Expect 10–15 hours per week for coursework, plus attendance at residencies and field school.

Admission Requirements

  • Completed bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution (minimum GPA ~B / 3.0)
  • Two years of relevant work or volunteer experience
  • Flexible pathway available for candidates with 6 years’ professional experience
  • Additional application: personal statement, two references, and prior-grade academic writing (if required)
