Course Overview

The Law LLM offers a broad and critical understanding of legal systems and their interaction with policy, society, and international frameworks. You can tailor your studies through a wide range of optional modules across legal disciplines and complete a dissertation in your area of interest.

Course Duration

1 Year Full-Time
(September 2025 – September 2026)

Taught Modules:

  • Delivered in Semester 1 (Autumn) and Semester 2 (Spring)
  • Followed by Dissertation in the Summer

Students must complete 180 credits:

  • 120 credits from taught modules
  • 60 credits from a supervised dissertation

Course Curriculum

Core Module:

  • Legal Research Skills and Methods (20 credits)

Optional Modules may include:

  • International Human Rights Law
  • Environmental Law and Sustainable Development
  • International Commercial Arbitration
  • EU Law and Governance
  • Law of the World Trade Organization
  • Artificial Intelligence and Law
  • Global Migration and the Law

Dissertation (60 credits):
Undertake independent legal research on a topic of your choice, with expert academic supervision.

Assessment methods include essays, written assignments, legal analysis, presentations, and a final dissertation. There are no formal exams.

Admission Requirements

  • A 2:1 honours degree (or international equivalent) in Law or a related subject (e.g. Politics, International Relations, Philosophy)
  • Applicants with relevant work experience or a 2:2 may be considered on a case-by-case basis

English Language Requirements:

  • IELTS 6.5 overall (minimum 6.5 in writing, and 6.0 in other components) or equivalent qualification

Applicants from non-common law jurisdictions or non-legal backgrounds may be required to complete a foundational module.
