Course Overview
The Food and Consumer Science degree at Abertay blends core scientific principles with market awareness, consumer insight, and product development. You’ll learn how food products are developed, how nutrition affects health, and how consumers make decisions—while developing laboratory, research, and communication skills.

Course Duration
4 Years Full-Time Study
- Year 1: Introduction to food science, human nutrition, and consumer behaviour. Development of key academic and practical skills.
- Year 2: Food processing, microbiology, sensory evaluation, and marketing fundamentals.
- Year 3: Applied product development, research methods, quality assurance, and professional placement.
- Year 4: Honours project, advanced consumer science, and sustainability in food production.
Throughout the degree, emphasis is placed on teamwork, problem-solving, and workplace readiness.

Admission Requirements
- Sri Lankan A/L: Minimum 3 passes including Chemistry or Biology
- UK A Levels: BBB including a science subject (preferably Chemistry or Biology)
- IB Diploma: 28 points with science subject
English Language Requirements:
- IELTS 6.0 (no component below 5.5) or an equivalent qualification
Alternative qualifications or relevant industry experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Scholarships Available:
