Course Overview
The Bachelor of Nursing is a comprehensive program designed to develop your expertise in providing safe, competent, and person-centred nursing care across diverse populations. You will gain foundational knowledge in anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, and pharmacology, coupled with practical skills developed through simulation and extensive clinical placements. The program emphasises critical thinking, evidence-based practice, and cultural safety, preparing you for the complexities of modern healthcare environments.
Course Duration
This program can be completed in 3 years of full-time study. The flexible structure allows you to balance your academic commitments with other responsibilities while ensuring you meet all professional practice requirements.
Course Curriculum
The curriculum integrates theoretical knowledge with practical application from your first year. Key areas of study include:
- Foundations of Clinical Practice
- Understanding Disease Concepts
- Human Anatomy and Physiology
- Clinical Nursing Practice (multiple units)
- Older Adults’ Health

Students undertake a minimum of 800 hours of supervised clinical practice (with 840 hours scheduled), commencing in the second semester of the first year and continuing every semester thereafter. Placements occur in public and private hospitals, aged care facilities, and community health centres.
Admission Requirements
To be eligible for the Bachelor of Nursing, applicants typically require:
- Academic: An ATAR/selection rank threshold of 75.00 (or equivalent).
- English Language Proficiency: Demonstrated proficiency through:
- IELTS (Academic): Overall 7.0 with no band less than 7.0
- PTE Academic: Overall 65 with no band less than 65
- TOEFL iBT: Overall 98 with a writing sub-score of 27, and listening, reading, speaking sub-scores of 24, 23 respectively.
- Or completion of at least 6 years of primary and secondary education taught and assessed solely in English in an approved country.
- Assumed Knowledge: Sound knowledge in English.

Fees and Funding
International students pay full fees, with indicative costs provided in the Banner Area. Additional costs may include uniforms, equipment, vaccinations, and Blue Card application. QUT provides information on payment options, government loans (HECS-HELP/FEE-HELP for eligible domestic students), and scholarships to assist with study expenses.
