Course Overview
The Mechanical Engineering degree focuses on the design, analysis, and manufacture of mechanical systems. You’ll study topics including thermofluids, dynamics, materials science, computer-aided design (CAD), and control systems.
Throughout the course, you’ll engage in group and individual projects, learn to solve real engineering challenges, and develop critical thinking and leadership abilities. The MEng pathway offers an additional year of advanced study and project work to deepen your expertise and management capabilities.
Course Duration
- BEng (Hons): 3 Years Full-Time
- MEng: 4 Years Full-Time
- Optional 1-Year Industrial Placement (extends total duration)
Year 1: Engineering mathematics, principles of thermodynamics, mechanical design, and electrical systems.
Year 2: Materials engineering, fluid mechanics, structural analysis, and dynamics.
Year 3 (BEng Final Year / MEng Year 3): Design optimisation, control systems, professional practice, and major project.
Year 4 (MEng only): Advanced systems design, project management, innovation, and an extended individual or group engineering project.

Admission Requirements
Academic Requirements:
- Sri Lankan A/L: Minimum 3 passes including Mathematics and Physics
- UK A Levels: 112–128 UCAS points (BBC–ABB) including Maths and a science subject
- IB Diploma: 28 points minimum with Higher Level Maths
English Language Requirements:
- IELTS 6.0 overall (minimum 5.5 in each component) or equivalent
Applicants with foundation diplomas, HNDs, or relevant industry experience will be considered individually.
