Course Overview

The Bachelor of Education (Teaching) develops your understanding of child development, learning theory, curriculum design, and teaching strategies. You’ll explore modern classroom technologies, inclusive teaching practices, and bicultural education through hands-on learning.

Course Duration

  • 3 years (Full Time)
    Each year includes both coursework and school-based practicums, with increasing responsibility and teaching autonomy as you progress.

Huarahi Māori students study in Te Reo Māori and explore kaupapa Māori teaching models, while Early Childhood students focus on holistic child development and play-based learning.

Admission Requirements

  • Academic:
    • University Entrance or an equivalent qualification
    • For Huarahi Māori: Te Reo Māori fluency and NCEA Level 2 Te Reo Māori or higher
  • English Language Proficiency:
    • IELTS 7.0 overall (no band lower than 7.0)
  • Additional Requirements:
    • Police clearance
    • Referee reports
    • Interview (may be in person or virtual)

Applicants must meet the requirements set by the New Zealand Teaching Council for registration.
