    • Units focusing on child development (birth to 8 years), early learning theories, health and safety, and an introduction to the early childhood profession.
  2. Curriculum & Pedagogy:
    • Deep dive into early childhood curriculum, including the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), pedagogical approaches, play-based learning, and designing engaging learning environments.
  3. Professional Practice (Placements):
    • A significant and compulsory component, requiring extensive supervised professional practice in a variety of early childhood settings (long day care, kindergarten, junior primary). These placements allow students to apply theoretical knowledge, develop practical teaching skills, and meet the professional requirements for registration. Total placement hours meet ACECQA requirements.
  4. Inclusive Practices & Diverse Learners:
    • Units covering strategies for supporting children with diverse needs, cultural responsiveness, working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, and fostering partnerships with families and communities.
  5. Leadership & Contemporary Issues:
    • Explores leadership in early childhood settings, ethical practice, professionalism, policy, and current trends and challenges in the early childhood sector.

Admission Requirements

  • Academic qualifications:
    • Successful completion of Australian Year 12 (VCE/HSC/WACE) or an international equivalent with a pass grade.
    • Relevant employment experience in early childhood education and/or other undergraduate studies will be considered for subject exemptions or special entry.
    • Applicants must be 18 years of age or above at the time of course commencement.
  • Non-Academic Requirements for Initial Teacher Education (NARTE):
    • All applicants are required to satisfy non-academic criteria, typically assessed via an online questionnaire or interview. This assesses your personal attributes for teaching, such as communication skills, resilience, and willingness to learn.
  • Clearances and Checks:
    • A satisfactory National Police Check (NPC) or Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC).
    • A satisfactory Working with Children Check (WWCC). These are mandatory for all professional practice placements.
  • Prior Learning/Experience:
    • Completion of an accredited Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care (or equivalent) within the last ten years may grant credit towards the Bachelor’s degree, potentially reducing the duration of study.

Language Proficiency

  • English language requirements (e.g., IELTS, TOEFL):
    • A minimum IELTS (Academic) overall score of 7.0 with no band less than 6.5, or approved equivalent, as per ACECQA requirements for Early Childhood Teachers.
    • TOEFL iBT: Overall score of 94, with specific minimums (often L24, R24, W27, S23) to meet professional registration.
    • PTE Academic: Overall score of 65, with no communicative skills less than 58.
    • Cambridge English Advanced (CAE): A grade of B (185-199).
