Mode of Study for international students:
- Full-time (on-campus)
Course Curriculum
The Bachelor of Biomedical Science curriculum is structured to provide a comprehensive understanding of biomedical principles and practices, with options for specialization through majors. The degree consists of 144 credit points (normally 24 units).
- Year 1: Foundational Sciences
- Core units include fundamental concepts in biology, chemistry, and mathematics, essential for a strong scientific base.
- Year 2-3: Core Biomedical Disciplines & Major Selection
- Students undertake core pre-clinical units as a single cohort, integrating knowledge across various biomedical scientific disciplines including anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, genetics, immunology, microbiology, pathology, and pharmacology.
- Students choose from a range of degree-specific extended majors or specializations such as:
- Aboriginal Health and Wellbeing
- Anatomy and Human Biology
- Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
- Genetics
- Human Genomics
- Microbiology and Immunology
- Neuroscience
- Pathology and Laboratory Medicine
- Pharmacology
- Physiology
- Public Health
- These majors allow for breadth and depth of learning in specific fields of interest.
- Electives & Opportunities:
- Students may choose optional units or minors (e.g., Applied Ethics, Brain and Behavior, Global Health, Women’s Health) to broaden their knowledge.
- The degree may include laboratory-based learning, practical industry placements, or laboratory-based biomedical research.
Admission Requirements
- Academic qualifications
- Successful completion of Australian Year 12 or equivalent secondary education qualification.
- A minimum ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank) of 80 (70 for Broadway schools).
- Prerequisites: A scaled score of 50 or more in WACE Mathematics Applications ATAR (or equivalent). If not met, additional Mathematics units will be required in the first year. Some majors may have additional recommended subjects (e.g., Chemistry for certain majors).
- International equivalent qualifications are assessed on a case-by-case basis (e.g., IB Diploma with at least 28-30 points; GCE A-levels with specific grades; Indian Senior School Certificate with a strong average).
- Assured Pathways (for Medicine/Dentistry): Highly competitive entry requires a higher ATAR (e.g., 92) and potentially an interview and ISAT for international students, securing a place in a postgraduate health professional degree upon successful completion of the Bachelor of Biomedical Science.
Language Proficiency
- English language requirements (e.g., IELTS, TOEFL)
- For international students, demonstrated English language proficiency is required. Acceptable tests include IELTS (Academic) with a minimum overall score of 6.5 (with no band less than 6.0), or equivalent TOEFL iBT scores (e.g., overall, 82, with minimums: L18, S17, R18, W22).
